The Magical Herd

It was getting dark, and rather cool considering it was a rainforest. You thought that the humidity would last through the night. But it was more than that, it wasn't just a coolness in the air, but in the very atmosphere of the place. The shadows weren't just amongst the trees, they seemed to move with a life of their own. Branches tried to capture you, bushes tried to tangle you, and the sounds...you didn't know what they were but they were everywhere. Above, below, to the left, to the right. Whichever way you turned there was something there, and yet nothing.

A vague white form slips through the foliage. Or was it just your imagination again. You didn't know what it was about this part of the forest that made it so eerie but you decided to turn back towards the other leagi. You had a feeling that the forest would feel different there, and if not, at least you'd feel safe with some protection.

You spin around as catch sight of the white shadow again. But nothing. Then the other side, then a sound behind you. Whirling around you were going to fall from dizzyness...that is if you legs didn't give out with fear first.

AAARRRGH!

You fall back as the snarling leagus female leapt out darkness, rearing over your prone form. You quiver, not even able to cry out for help. It was like you had entered the Twilight Zone, only it wasn't just weird, it was terrifying.

The female paced around you, blood coloured claws and hooves coming dangerously close to your head. She dropped her head to sniff you, then snorted in derision. "So pitiful." Raising her head again, she shook her mane and faded back into the shadows.

Realizing that she wasn't going to eat you, and really not wanting to be left alone out here, you follow her mist-like form through the trees. She made not a sound as she moved past the bushes, unlike you, whose every footstep alerted all predators near and far of your helpless presence. Yes, best not loose that leagus.
